War and Propaganda
The goal for this project was to create stationery that would display the style of a certain art period. I chose the period of War and Propaganda Posters/ Art. I chose this period because I find the illustrative style displayed on most of the posters quite interesting. The three people that I chose to focus on were Joseph Leyendecker, Jessie Wilcox Smith, and James Montgomery Flagg. Finding out information on each of these artists lives was pretty cool. Along with seeing how they began doing art and how they became famous doing it.
I faced a few challenges with displaying the art within the stamps. Mainly because I needed to write things on the stamp but the pictures also had writing within them. Because of this, some of the type began to clash together. What I ended up doing was, going into photoshop and extending the blank spaces around each of the pictures and blocking out whatever slogan that was written on them. This gave me more room to work but also did not destroy the original image that I chose to work with.
At the end of the assignment, Brochures, Envelopes and a series of stamps were created for each person that I chose from this time period.
